The Tongji University Artificial Intelligence Research Institute was established recently to work on major national science and technology innovation projects and collaborative interdisciplinary research on intelligence technology. The institute will take advantage of the discipline resources in more than ten schools in the university and promote talent development in the field. This is aligned with the university's capacity building for independent innovation and reform in interdisciplinary approach, project organization, allocation of researchers and resource and high-level interdisciplinary talent development in response to the changing landscape. An Artificial Intelligence Technology Development Strategy Summit was held on the same day.

　　Artificial intelligence is at the forefront of the science and technology development. The Alpha Go's win over the world top chess player last year greatly raised the public awareness of intelligent technology and boosted the development of artificial intelligence industry. The human society has to prepare itself for the fact that machine intelligence is going to surpass human brain intelligence in many fields and is motivated to create machine brains to solve problems and even machine super brain to make more intelligent decisions.
