As a key hub for foreign investment in Shanghai, Yangpu is strengthening its "Warm Yangpu" service brand, fostering a more business-friendly environment through enhanced support for international enterprises.
Global fast-food giant Subway has been in the Chinese market for over 20 years. In 2022, Subway China established its management company in Yangpu. To support the company's new growth strategy, the Yangpu District Commission of Commerce and other departments have provided comprehensive assistance, facilitating store expansion, brand upgrades, and overall business growth.
On June 26, 2023, Subway's KIC store opened, marking the company's first directly operated outlet in China under its revamped strategy. Currently, Subway operates 11 stores in Yangpu, with several locations, including Poly Yangpu Yuehuofang, Tengyueji, and B-link, participating in Shanghai's Breakfast Initiative, expanding local breakfast options. According to Subway China's latest plan, 5-10 new stores are expected to open in Yangpu by 2025.
Foreign enterprises are now a major driving force in Yangpu's economic and social development. The district is home to over 1,300 foreign-invested companies, including regional headquarters and R&D centers of more than 40 multinational corporations such as Nike, Siemens, Henkel, Continental, Lear, and AECOM.
Founded in 1972 and headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Nike is one of the world's most renowned sports brands. In 2014, Nike Greater China Headquarters was established in Yangpu's Springs Center, driving innovation in product development, sports events, and business operations in collaboration with the district.
During the 2023 China International Import Expo, Nike and Yangpu signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on technological innovation, consumer transformation, and green development, aligning with national strategies and regional innovation. Nike has also expanded its footprint in Springs with a third athlete-named office building and launched the Nike Sports Research Lab at its Greater China headquarters. With strong support from the Yangpu Commission of Commerce, the lab is advancing research capabilities, integrating with sports events and teams, and creating practical application scenarios. The initiative also aligns with sustainable product development and supply chain strategies, including a green supply chain showcase to promote material recycling.
This year, as part of its Business Environment Optimization 8.0 initiative, Yangpu is deepening its support for foreign businesses through the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Linked Innovation Area, further enhancing its "Warm Yangpu" service brand. The district is refining its WARM service mechanisms, including the Foreign Enterprise Roundtable, and fostering a globally competitive business environment. Additionally, Yangpu is expanding specialized services for international businesses, streamlining investment procedures, and supporting outbound ventures.
Moving forward, the Yangpu Commission of Commerce will actively host industry matchmaking events, entrepreneur salons, and business forums to strengthen government-enterprise dialogue and boost investor confidence. It will also encourage headquarters enterprises to seize opportunities from China's expanding market openness, integrating deeper into global value, industry, and innovation chains. By attracting high-quality international capital and goods, the district aims to support local enterprises in expanding globally while reinforcing their regional commitment. Moreover, Yangpu will establish a comprehensive service response system to address corporate needs, resolve challenges, and safeguard foreign investors' legitimate rights.
