TongjiUniversityhasrecentlyheldtheopeningceremonyforitsFlorencecampus,thefirstcampusthatTongjihasopenedoverseas,alsothefirstcampusthataChineseuniversityhasopenedinItaly.Ac-cordingtorelatedprincipalsofTongji,theuniversitywillvigorouslydevelopoverseasstudyprojects,whichisarequirementandalsoanimportantcontentofschoolinter-nationalization.Itisalsoanimpor-tantapproachtoimprovestudent’sinternationalcompetitiveness,in-novation,anddevelopcross-cul-turalhigh-leveltalents.AsthefirstoverseascampusofTongji,Florencecampuswill actively exploreasustainableeducationmodewithavision;dedicateitselftodevelopingmore interdisciplinary classiccourses.Thecampuswillbecon-structedintoabrandofoverseasstudyforTongjibymakingthebestuseofinternationalizededucationalresourcesandrenovatingthede-velopmentmodeloftalents.

　　FlorencecampusofTongjiisajointprojectoffourparties,includingTongjiUniversity, Florence CityGovernment, Tuscany DistrictGovernmentandItalianMinistryofEnvironment.Thecampuswillfocusonvacationcourses,shortsemester,andshort-termtrainings.Itwillgradually develop semesterandschoolyearprograms.In2014,thecampuswillcarryoutstudyforcol-legestudentsmajoredindesignandrenovation,furtherstudyforteach-ers,trainingforhigh-endtalents,culturalandacademicactivitiesasplannedforstudents’education,teachers’communicationandsub-jectconstruction.Thefirstbatchof29studentsthathavebeenrecruitedfrom10universitiesinChinaarestudyingonthe“2014TongjiUni-versityFlorence CampusSpringSemesterprogram”.ThisisajointprogramorganizedbyTongjiUni-versityandChinaEducationAsso-ciationforInternationalExchange.

　　Thecampuswillbetheofficialrepresentative office of TongjiUniversityinFlorencewiththepurposetocoordinateandpromotecooperationwithuniversities,in-stitutionsandenterprisesengagedindesign creationinItaly.TongjiUniversitywillcarryoutmulti-layerandextensiveeducationalcom-municationand cooperationbymakingthebestofitsadvantages.Itwillalsodevelopandexpandco-operationbetweenChinaanduni-versities, governments, culturalorganizations and industries ofEurope based onthe factthatFlorenceisthebirthplaceoftheRenaissanceandthecharacteristicsofItalyandentireEuropeintermsofculture,artanddesigncenters.TheuniversitywilldevelopandexpandopportunitiesforitsownstudentsandstudentfromotherChineseuniversitiestostudyover-seas.Thecampusalsoaimstoserveasaplatformforscholars,politi-ciansandbusinessleadersfromAsiaandEuropetocommunicate.ThecampuswillhostsymposiumsonChinesepolitics,historyandculturaltopicssoastolettheworldlearnmoreandbetteraboutChina.ItalsoencouragescommunicationaboutChinesetechnology,pro-ductionandindustrialdesignca-pability.Thecampuswilldemon-strateChineseart&design,levelofChinesearchitecturesubjectsandeducationalachievements.
