When there is a fire accident in the city, the system can ring the alarm automatically. The city mayor and his or her team will lose no time in initiating the emergency plan, connecting with important functions such as the public security, the transportation and the meteorology, locating the venue of the fire, mobilizing the most appropriate firefighting resources and tracking the delivery of the resources intelligently, tracking and supervising the responsible person. The system can also intelligently search major hazardous sources nearby, record of accidents in history, predict and prevent the proliferation of the damage.

　　The above is a case that the “Intelligent Mayor Table” for an intelligent city can operate. The table was invented and developed independently by China Intelligent Urbanization Co-creation Center for High Density Region under the leadership of Professor Wu Zhiqiang in Tongji University.

　　The “Intelligent Mayor Table” made its debut and attracted a lot of attention with its demonstration at the 2014 Shanghai International Architectural & Engineering Design and Planning Exhibition held in Shanghai New International Expo Center during October 14-16. Along with the table, Tongji University also showcased more than 30 digitalized design and construction achievements. Five entities from Tongji created a consortium of “Tongji Design” at the exhibition this time, including China Intelligent Urbanization Co-creation Center for High Density Region, the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, the College of Design and Innovation, the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Tongji, and Tongji Urban Planning & Design Institute.

　　The “Intelligent Mayor Table” was the spotlight of “Tongji Design” presented this time. According to Project Manager Cao Jing, this project is essentially connecting the “lonely islands” of massive data collected from the informatization process of the city in the aspects of planning, construction, operation and management so as to achieve instant interaction. Based on the emerging demands of intelligent development of Chinese cities in the future, China Intelligent Urbanization Co-creation Center for High Density Region launched the project of “Intelligent Mayor Table” in November 2011. By using technologies such as logistics network and cloud platform, the project focused on breaking through the data bulwark of all layers so that the data will surge and be activated. The mayor can thus control the real-time situation of the city in a comprehensive and intelligent manner, and then make analyses, judgments and decisions.

　　On the homepage of the “Intelligent Mayor Table”, there are sections of meteorology information, real-time traffic status, instant media response, emergency plan, etc. Professor Wu has designed eight functional modules for the “Intelligent Mayor Table”, including “Development Achievements”, “Overall Resources Planning”, “Upward Contact”, “Daily Management”, “Experience Recommendation”, “Emergency”, “Opinion Collection”, and “Key Project”. These modules will support the intelligent decision making of the mayor. A series of independent intellectual property achievements including “Urban Alarm Model”, “Evaluation Indexes System of an Intelligent City” and “Databank of Urban Cases” from China Intelligent Urbanization Co-creation Center for High Density Region are supporting the intelligent decision making of the mayor. Besides, the mayor can also predict the future of the city and grasp all the problems that arise throughout the urbanization process. Since the launching of the project of “Intelligent Mayor Table”, it has drawn wide attention from government decision makers from home and abroad.
