At major sections including the Bund, People's Square, Lujiazui, Xujiahui and Wujiaochang, there have been tobacco control volunteers from universities and colleges in Shanghai. They randomly sent pedestrians small gifts to encourage them support the new regulations on tobacco control. This campaign, called "Give Love to a Smoke-free Shanghai", was initiated by the Fudan University Health Communication Institute and Xinmin Weekly.
On March 1, the new version of Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on Smoking Control in Public Places is to be formally implemented, and all indoor public places in Shanghai will be completely smoke-free. "It is the key to the effective implementation of the tobacco control regulations to motivate and educate the public so we can gain their support and participation. A smoke-free Shanghai is part of the Healthy Shanghai campaign, and a healthy Shanghai is closely related to every resident, especially on the smoking issue," said Professor Fu Hua, director of Fudan University Health Communication Institute.
The online campaign that rewards brilliant ideas for persuading citizens out of smoking, as part of the "Give Love to a Smoke-free Shanghai" event, has also been launched, which will solicit effective ways to discourage smoking. You can participate in this campaign by following the official WeChat account of Fudan University Health Communication Institute, HEALTH-TASK-FORCE, and replying “Jindianzi” (meaning brilliant ideas).
