InthefuturewhenyouaregoingtotheTraditionalChineseMedicinehospitalsinShanghai,youaretreatedprobablynotbyadoctor,butanarti⁃ficialintelligentrobot.Thisisnotsomethinglikefantasy,butanideathatisexpectedtoturnintorealityinMarchorAprilnextyear.ProfessorFengJianfengfromtheSchoolofMathematical Sciences ofFudanUniversity,thechiefexpertofShang⁃haiCenterforMathematicalSciencessaidrecentlythatateamofFudanUniversityisworkingwithShanghaiUniversityofTraditional ChineseMedicineinthedevelopmentofanintelligentTCMrobot.Therobotissaidtobeabletogivemoreprecisediagnoses by avoiding subjectiveopinionsandmakinguseoftheexpe⁃rienceofmanyTCMphysicians.TherobotTCM-1isplannedtobereleasedinMarchorAprilnextyear.

ChineseAcademyofSciencesaidthatthebrain-likecomputingandartificialintelligenceresearcharetheimportantpartoftheChinaBrainProjectthatisabouttolaunch.
It’sreportedthatbrainscienceaimingtoexplorehowbrainworksisoneoftheworld’sleadingsciencesofthiscentury.Between2013and2014,theUnitedStates,EuropeUnionandJapansuccessivelylaunchedmajorbrainresearchplans,whichChinahaslistedasoneofits“MajorScienceandTechnology Programs ConcerningChina’sFutureDevelopment”.Be⁃sides,“ChinaBrainPlan”isunderdiscussionandwillbelaunchedsoon.Mr.YangXionglistressedit’stheul⁃timatechallengeforhumanbeingstoexplorethebrainandthatthedevel⁃opmentofbrainsciencewillgreatlypromotethepreventionandcureofbraindiseasesaswellasthegrowthofinformationandsmartindustry.It’ssaidthat“ChinaBrainPlan”willcon⁃ductresearchesofbrainstudy,pro⁃tectionandimitation,graduallyform⁃ingaresearchpatternof“onebody”
(basicresearchofbraincognitiveprinciples) and“twowings”(re⁃searchesofseriousbraindiseasesandbrain-likeartificialintelligence).
ProfessorMaLan,deanoftheBrainScienceResearchInstituteofFudanUniversity,saidover1/4oftheglobaldeathtollarecausedbybraindiseases.Sofar,1/4oftheNobelPrize-winningprogramsareaboutbrainscience.Despitesciencede⁃velopment,humansstillpossesslim⁃itedknowledgeofthebrain.
ShanghaiMunicipalGovernmenthasdesignatedbrainscienceandar⁃tificialintelligenceasamajorscienceandtechnologyprogram,asignificantmeasureofdevelopingShanghaiintoascienceandtechnologyinnovationcenterwithglobalinfluence.Leadingandworkingwithadozenofuniver⁃sitiessuchasZhejiangUniversity,HuazhongUniversityofScienceandTechnology, Tongji University,ShanghaiJiaotongUniversityandin⁃stituteofChineseAcademyofSci⁃ence,FudanUniversityhasestab⁃lisheda“BrainScienceCollaborative
InnovationCenter”topromotebrainscienceresearchesandtheapplica⁃tionoftheresearchresults,thusparticipatinginandboostingtheim⁃plementationof“ChinaBrainPlan”.
Accordingtosources,thankstotheintegratedadvantagesofmedicalscience,mathematics,neurology,aswellasotherdisciplines,BrainSci⁃enceResearchInstituteandBrainScience Collaborative InnovationCenterofFudanUniversityhavemadealotofprogressinbrainre⁃search.Forinstance,accordingtooneresearchwhichshowedtheori⁃ginoftheinterneuronsinthecerebralcortexofprimates,scientistswereabletoanalyzetheoriginandtrans⁃ferringdirectionoftheinterneuronsinhumancerebralcortex.Anotherresearchexplainedhowneuronnet⁃workisformedandfoundanewfor⁃mationmechanismoftheneuronnetworkinhumanbrain.
AsakeymemberoftheCollab⁃orativeInnovationCenter,Prof.Fenghasfoundinhumanbrainahormonewhichhasaspecialfunctionof
strengtheningtheemotionalcommu⁃nicationbetweenpeople.Itwascon⁃cludedthatbreast-feedingnotonlyisgoodforthebaby’shealth,butalsocanfostertheemotionalconnectionbetweenthemotherandthebaby.Inaddition,inastudyondepressedpa⁃tients,hefoundalackof“hatecircuit”intheirbrain,andconcludedthatoneofthemaincausesofdepressionisthat:“withouthatred,theycanfindnootherwaytooutlettheirgrievancethantohurtthemselves.”
Ithasbeentoldthatamajorprojectnamed“BrainScienceandBrain-like Artificial Intelligence”,which was jointly launched byShanghai Municipal Government,ChineseAcademyofSciences,andChineseAcademyofEngineering,withafocusontheR&Dandindus⁃trializationofbrain-likeartificialin⁃telligence,hasaccomplishedmanytasks,suchastheestablishingofaplatformforbigscientificdataandbrainsimulation,andtheR&Dofsoftwaresystemsofbrain-likearti⁃ficialintelligence.
