On 16 April, the New Jiangwan Town community health service center at No. 107, Zhenghe Road, was officially opened. At a little over 8 o' clock, Lu Xiaoliang and his wife, who lived in Jianfa community, arrived at the center with their seven-month-old grandson for a vaccination. Prior to the opening of the center, they often took him to Yanxing community, "now that we have our own community hospital, it would be much more convenient later.
The center is supposedly to provide health services, including disease prevention, healthcare, medical treatment, rehabilitation, health education, and planned birth control, for estimated 50,000 permanent residents in the 8.67 km2 New Jiangwan Town community.
The center is an independent 6-storey building with a floor area of 3,700 m2 and 47 beds. It currently has departments of preventive health care, general medicine, internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, women's healthcare, children's healthcare, otolaryngology, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, rehabilitation, medical examination, and medical imaging. It also has two additional work stations of family doctors set up at Zhenghe Road, and Time Garden.
According to Chen Zhongqing, the deputy director of New Jiangwan Town Health Service Center, the center has introduced radiodiagnosis equipment such as digital rontgenography and RVG, and medical testing equipment such as full-automatic biochemistry analyzer, blood cell analyzer, HbAlc analyzer, and urine analyzer. The ECG and ultrasound department can perform abdominal ultrasound examination, as well as electrocardiogram, 24-hour electrocardiogram, and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring. The rehabilitation department is equipped with various advanced equipment such as low-frequency, medium-frequency, laser, and cervical and lumbar traction treatment device.
In the future, the center will implement the "1+1+1" family doctor signing-up program, provide personalized family doctor signing-up services, and reform policies including appointment, referral and prescription extension, connecting community medical services with public healthcare system, and fully displaying the role of family doctor as "gatekeeper" in residents' health maintenance, medical payment and medical resources.
