Ten sentinel clinics for fever built by community health centers in Yangpu District have recently been put into use. At present, after receiving fever patients, the community health center no longer direct them to the fever clinic of nearby hospital; instead, the sentinel clinic will undertake the work of screening, registration, referral, tracking, etc., further strengthening the implementation of the "early detection, early report, early isolation, and early treatment" policy.
The reporter saw in the Yanji Community Health Center that the sentinel clinic there is clearly marked with blue words on a white board. After a patient enters, his/her body temperature needs to be re-measured, and personal information registered. After the initial diagnosis and blood sampling, there will be staff from the laboratory to take the sealed sample container away for testing. The patient can obtain the test report within 10 minutes.
"According to the test results and epidemiological investigations, we will provide on-site treatment for fever patients with a clear cause; for patients who meet the diagnostic criteria for the novel coronavirus pneumonia or suspected patients who need further diagnosis, we will immediately contact the fever clinic of hospitals in our district and arrange suitable vehicles to transfer them."
Wu Ping, a doctor at the sentinel clinic, told the reporter that after the patient is transferred, medical staff will carry out disinfection of the consultation room and related areas, and keep contact with the fever clinic to follow up the case.
"Supplementing the fever clinics of hospitals, the sentinel clinics of community health centers serve as a community network for screening fever patients." Wang Lihua, director of the Yanji Community Health Center, told the reporter. A three-level joint mechanism (including city-level, district-level, and community-level medical institutions) has been formed to boost fever screening capacity at the grass-root level and improve the city's fever monitoring network, which is essential for epidemic prevention and control.
After being assigned the task of building the sentinel clinic, the Yanji Community Health Center took action quickly and transformed an area of about 15 square meters in its original outpatient clinic into a sentinel clinic within a week. In spite of limited space, the clinic is divided into 3 areas (clean area, semi-polluted area, and polluted area) and 2 passages (medical care passage and patient passage). The entrance and exit of the sentinel clinic are separated from the general outpatient clinic to avoid contact between of fever patients and other patients. "The sentinel clinic is equipped with 2 senior general practitioners with clinical experience and training in infectious disease diagnosis and treatment, as well as 2 nursing staff, and all relevant medical staff have been specially trained."
