Ju Hongfang, who lives in Apartment 701, Building 12, Lane 118, Zhengtong Road, was particularly excited to see the elevator installation work resumed. "I am 61 years old and it is never easy for an old woman like me to go up and down the stairs every day. I have been looking forward to an elevator for several years. No long ago, they finished installing elevators in the building in front of mine, which meant my waiting was about to end. Unfortunately, the virus came and screwed up the installation schedule. You can imagine how anxious I was in the following days. Now, seeing the project resumed, I feel quite relieved."
The installation of elevators in old multi-storey buildings is an important livelihood project. Recently, the reporter learned from the District Housing Management Bureau that all the 11 elevator installation projects in the district have resumed operation.
The reporter saw in the community at lane 118, Zhengtong Road, that the installation was almost completed and in the debugging stage for Building No. 5, 6 and 7. The facade of the elevator is made of glass, which is beautiful and can let in light. "We now need to adjust the position of the guide rails, install relevant parts to a fixed position, and do some debugging for accuracy. If the debugging is not good, it will affect the comfort of elevator riders, or the door won't open or close smoothly," a construction worker with a green health code on his chest, told the reporter.
The reporter learned that the three elevators in Building 5, 6, and 7 were originally scheduled for delivery in March this year, but due to the epidemic, the delay was more than two months. With improvement in epidemic prevention and control, and in response to the expectations of residents, all related parties such as the sub-district government, community committee, construction unit, etc., actively promoted the resumption of the elevator installation projects while maintaining epidemic prevention efforts.
A lot of preparatory work has been done before the installation. Xu Zhixi, secretary of the party branch of Zhengtong community, told the reporter: "Knowing elevator installation consulting companies and survey units had resumed work, residents like Ju, kept coming to the committee office to ask about the installation in the past two weeks. So we engaged an elevator service center to survey all the 3 neighborhoods under the jurisdiction of the community committee on the issues like the residents' willingness to install elevators, and space conditions for installing, etc."
According to statistics, as of the end of March, Yangpu District had seen 45 elevator installation projects initiated with 50 elevators to be installed to benefit more than 970 households. Among them, 17 elevators have been installed and delivered for usage, and 11 are under construction, whose installation was resumed after the Spring Festival holiday. The remaining 17 projects are now going through relevant procedures before construction.
