　　Hospitals generally do not open night outpatient; however, office workers are busy working during the daytime, thus only limited to see the doctor at night and only visit the emergency at night. Recently, Yangpu Hospital of TCM has "tested the water" of night outpatient model to address this demand. Some departments adjusted "timetable" and extended outpatient till 8 pm, making it easier for office workers and students to receive medical treatment.

　　At around 6 pm on March 15th, in the Department of Acupuncture and Massage Yangpu Hospital of TCM, Doctor Zhou Xu was pressing head and neck for Ms. Shen who had suffered from cervical spondylosis for years, recently often feeling dizzy and uncomfortable. After TCM treatment based on syndrome differentiation, Ms. Shen was diagnosed as insufficiency of qi and blood. "This is primarily due to high work pressure, sedentary office work, poor sleep and other factors," Zhou Xu suggested Ms. Shen performing massage therapy for two to three times a week, coupled with foot acupuncture.

　　Zhou Xu is proficient in manipulative treatment of common soft tissue injuries in neck, shoulder, waist and knee. Previously, in case of registration with him, patients could only visit during the daytime. Nowadays, he works shifts a few days a week, sitting until 8 pm. "I need long-term treatment for my disease, but it used to be very inconvenient to ask for leave, so I usually gave up after two or three weeks." Ms. Shen said, "Now the night outpatient is indeed friendly to office workers."

　　The reporter saw on site that apart from office workers, many parents came with kids just after school. The pediatric massage turns out to be a specialty of department as well. An elementary school child Liu Xinyi was recently down with recurrent eczema, turning over frequently and sweating abnormally while sleeping; therefore, the mother took her to night outpatient. "This is mainly caused by weak spleen and stomach, and our major treatment plan is to soothe liver, strengthen spleen, regulate qi and dissipate dampness." Ma Hongmin, an inheritor of Shanghai-style pediatric massage, explained that through some acupoints on hands, abdomen and back, in conjunction with the manipulation of strengthening spleen and dissipating dampness, it will achieve better therapeutic effect.

　　It is learned that the first range of departments opening night outpatient in this hospital are mainly dominated by TCM specialties, including TCM acupuncture and TCM massage, followed by TCM internal medicine, TCM orthopedics, TCM gynecology and the like in the future to meet the needs of more people. Zhang Shufu, Dean of the District Hospital of TCM, told reporter that the hospital would also launch weekend outpatient and regional shuttle bus in the next step to deliver more convenient medical services to patients.
