One teacher and one student from Tongji University have recently been to Zhongshan Station and Great Wall Station on the South Pole to carry out the scientific investigation of the polar environment as a project of the State Oceanic Administration. They will implement the project there for three months. The teacher even sent back his diary on his way to the South Pole.
Meng Xiangzhou, Associate professor in the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, and Guo Yiyi, a postgraduate enrolled in 2012 are the two participants of the project entitled “Comprehensive Investigation and Evaluation of the Environment in the South Pole and the North Pole”. They set out from Shanghai on January 18 and boarded the Science Ship named “Xue Long” at Hobart Port in Australia on January to head toward the South Pole. The participants of this project will go to the Zhongshan Station to set up their observatory spot this time and investigate the environmental quality of the ocean by taking the science ship “Xue Long” for the first time. Tongji University will complete all-round investigation of all major stations in the two polar regions.
