Following the promulgation of the newly revised “Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Rights and Interests of the Aged” on July 1, the posterity of the aged will be further protected. In October, Shanghai Notarization Association will launch the first service month when 21 notary public offices of the city will handle will notarization for people aged above 80 and handle will preservation for people aged 60, both for free.

　　As learned from Yangpu Notary Public Office will offer the service from October 8 to 31 and start to accept reservation from September 25. Applicants born before December 31 1953 can apply to any of the notary agencies for handling will preservation for free while applicants born before December 31 1933 can apply to any of the notary agencies for handling will notarization for free. No household registry will be restricted for the applicants. Applicants can apply to the nearest notary agency. The form of will preservation is restricted to notarized will, self-written will and will written on the applicant’s behalf.

　　To ensure service quality, 19 notaries will take shifts in Yangpu Notary Public Office starting from October 8. According to Cai Yu, Deputy Director of the office, the notary to learn basic information of the will of the applicant when making reservations and estimate how much time will be needed for handling the case. The office can handle about six applicants daily. Applicants with successful reservation can still enjoy the free service from the office if their cases cannot be arranged before October 31.

　　The applicant can trust others for making reservation. The trustee shall bring the ID card and entrustment letter of the applicant, the trustee’s ID card to the office for making reservation. The applicant shall be present when handling wills notarization or preservation. The applicant shall bring the ID card, vouchers for involved properties (real estate, deposit, stocks, etc.) and the will. If an executor has been appointed for the will, the ID card of the executor shall be presented as well.
