Wujiaochang Sub-district has recently joined hands with Shanghai Fudan Sci-tech Park and Shanghai Sunlight Social Workers Firm organizing the 4th Orienteering and Youth Community Theme Event “Dream & Challenge” in the sci-tech park. More than 70 people from members of the “Gather in Wujiaochang for Lot” Youth Community including Fudan University, China State Construction Engineering Corporation, Agricultural Bank of China, and the fancy rope skipping team from Shanghai University of Sport were attracted.
After the fancy rope skipping show and the ice breaking game, the starting gun was heard and participants of the orienteering in raincoats dashed out against the rain and hail. Siping Sci-tech Park was the destination. All the participants, with concerted efforts, searched the mysterious person in the park and met through challenges of the four passes including “clapping hands on 7” on the basketball court, “doing the jigsaw” in enterprising pavilion, “crossing the power grid” without touching obstacles and instant “sale for charity”. As the time used in getting through each pass directly decided the quantity of materials each participating team could get for auction and the money they could raise from auction, each team were doing their best.
When doing the “sale for charity”, the players took the challenges bravely and tried to sell the goods in the nearby stores or on the street. As there were not many passengers on the rainy day, some players got the idea to sell on wechat circle of friends, which was very successful as they sold out what they got very quickly and raised considerable sum of money. During the goods auction afterwards, the young players were very active in bidding in teams. Rose made of beads, crystal bracelet, stuffed toy tiger and warm paste, etc. Were all sold out. Based on the speed and value of fund raising, a team of “Star for Public Good” was selected.
The theme of the event this year was based on the form of urban orienteering, healthy life with low-carbon traffic and friend-making for public good, guiding the young people to take part in events for public good and contribute to society.
Statistics shows that RMB1, 166.6 was raised for charity from this event. They contacted the volunteers’ team of “A Yan and His Friends” on the KIC main venue and donated the fund to Shanghai Children’s Home and Shanghai No.2 Social Welfare Institute to help the disadvantaged population.
