There was a free food cabinet recently appearing on Daxue Road, Yangpu District that provided beverages, breads and biscuits, all free to take, for people who were still out there working amid the coronavirus outbreak, like volunteers, sanitation workers, police officers, security guards, package and food delivery workers.

　　About 3 pm on March 17 in the community of Chuangzhifang, where the cabinet was located, the reporter saw every now and then a delivery worker would come and take something from the cabinet. "My heart feels warm now. With orders increasing these days, we are busier and busier, and sometimes, don't even have time to eat. Some days I happen to deliver food around this area, and I would take some beverage and biscuit from the cabinet to eat," said one delivery worker, Xiao Chen.

　　Only half an hour later two thirds of food in the cabinet was already gone. Later then, a man with two cases of beverage came to restock the cabinet. He is George, the initiator of the free food cabinet, and an owner of a store on Daxue Road. "I like it here. I have feelings for this neighborhood. Having seen so many people who are risking their lives to keep our society going makes me want to do something for them," George told the reporter. Last February he had bought 50 kg of tomatoes and lots of milk and gave them out to volunteers, which earned him universally praises from other members of the community. But he still felt that there was a lot more that he could do. An idea occurred to him that he could put a cabinet on the Daxue Road with food and beverages inside for frontline workers to take. The cabinet must be near his studio so he would know anytime if the cabinet needed refill. Supported by the property management, a free food cabinet finally came out on the street on March 10.

　　Since then the free food cabinet had gone viral on the Internet, with more and more citizens wanting to join this relay of kindness and love. "A couple days ago, people from Lane 88 here told me that they wanted to put together another cabinet for people in this city who were fighting the coronavirus. And I hope more and more business owners and citizens can join us in this good deed, and one day, the cabinet could be a new landmark on Daxue Road," said George.
