As learned from Yangpu District Civil Engineering and Water Affairs Administrative Center, the 39-year-old Haian Lu Bridge has started reinforcement and repair. The project will take 128 days in total. The bridge will be shut down to motor vehicles for eight times, 48 hours each time, during this period. Non-motor vehicles and passengers won’t be influenced. The construction party is to put on the notice to the public one week in advance.

　　The bridge, built in 1976, is an important channel connecting Yangpu with Fuxing Island. With the economic growth, the traffic load to the bridge has been increasing with years. In the past three years, the traffic volume and load have exceeded the capacity of the road. Damages to the bridge have been worsening and seriously threaten the structural safety of the bridge. To ensure the bridge safety, Yangpu District Civil Engineering and Water Affairs Administrative Center adopted some temporary protective measures, putting some grass mattress and steel plates on the bridge to reduce the damage and vibration, which could only delay the worsening space to a limited extent.

　　To guarantee that the bridge can operate normally in the future, the authority has kicked off the program to reinforce and repair the bridge overall. Based on the damage degree and other conditions, the project will be carried out in two phases, the north side first and then the south side. To ensure the quality of the cement, the bridge will be shut down completely for eight times, 48 hours each time. Traffic is allowed on one side only if the bridge is not fully closed. The north side has now been closed for construction. The traffic lights are working normally to guide the traffic. Two workers will be standing at both ends of the bridge to guide the traffic as well.

　　Before the project was started, Yangpu District Civil Engineering & Water Affairs Administrative Center has notified the enterprises located on Fuxing Island about the damages of the bridge, transportation arrangement and construction plan. The information has also been published on the website of Shanghai Road Administration Bureau so that social vehicles will try to avoid from passing Haian Lu Bridge during this period.
