According to information at the National Higher Education Institution Forum on Practice, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, held in Tongji University, Tongji University has set up the first experimental zone of "innovation and entrepreneurship +" training mode, as well as an innovation and entrepreneurship education research center, marking its new explorations in the innovation and entrepreneurship education.

　　Tongji University set up the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in October 2016 to carry out the teaching, research and practice in innovation and entrepreneurship for all undergraduate and graduate level students. The School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is fully responsible for the implementation of innovation and entrepreneurship education in Tongji, the formulation of policies on innovation and entrepreneurship, theoretical research on innovation education, the organization of innovation and entrepreneurship courses and practical activities, the evaluation of innovative abilities of undergraduates, the publishing of white papers on Tongji' s innovation and entrepreneurship education, the conducting of innovation and entrepreneurship degree education, and the enrollment of innovation and entrepreneurship students.

　　The "Innovation and Entrepreneurship +" training mode focuses on the emerging field that combines innovation and entrepreneurship education with new engineering disciplines, collaborates interdisciplinary advantages, and aims to cultivate corporate and entrepreneurial leaders with a global vision, interdisciplinary strengths, the innovative spirit and the entrepreneurial awareness who systematically master the knowledge and ability of innovation and entrepreneurship.

　　In addition to completing the normal learning tasks of their majors, the innovation and entrepreneurship students in the experimental zone are required to complete 5 theoretical courses on innovation and entrepreneurship within 2 years, such as "Introduction to Frontiers of Innovation and Entrepreneurship", "Innovation Methods and Foundations of Entrepreneurship", and 4 practice courses such as "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research" and " Entrepreneurship Case Studies". Students in the experimental zone will get the Certificate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Tongji University after gaining 18 credits. After completing 12 credits for innovation and entrepreneurship elective courses, they are eligible to apply for the minor of innovation and entrepreneurship.
