The "Yangpu Centennial Industries" watercolor exhibition is on display in Yangpu Riverside Area. The 24 works, acquired through the "Yangpu Centennial Industrial Memory" watercolor creation campaign, depict a group of representative centenary industrial buildings such as Yangshupu Water Plant, Yangshupu Power Plant, Yangshupu Gas Plant and Yangshupu Cotton Mill. Artists involved in the creation include senior and established artists such as Zhu Hu and Chen Xidan, as well as middle-aged and promising artists in watercolor such as Feng Xinqun, Wei Wei and Liang Gang.
In the 1930s, there were over 300 industrial enterprises in Yangpu across various sectors such as textile, shipbuilding, paper making, pharmacy, soap making, tobacco, nonferrous metals, machinery manufacturing and public utilities, many of them the first of its kind in China, making Yangpu the gathering place of industries in Shanghai and modern China as a whole. In accordance with the principle of "carefully preserving history and retaining culture", the Yangpu Culture Bureau has been actively exploring the conservation, inheritance and utilization of the centennial industrial culture and architecture heritage along the Yangpu Riverside, and has organized the "Yangpu Centennial Industrial Memory" watercolor creation campaign to showcase the century-old glory of Yangpu's industry through art, continue Shanghai's history, retain the memory, and promote cultural innovation.
Different from the past, the exhibition was held at Yangpu Riverside, on which most of the works were based on, so that visitors can not only enjoy the works of art but also see some of the original architectures.
According to a senior staff member at Yangpu Culture Bureau, Yangpu is also organizing the watercolor creation campaigns for "Centennial Municipal Administration" and "Centennial Colleges", with a view to help the public better understand Yangpu's history of the "Three Centennials" through the art form of watercolor.
