　　Going out early and returning late, or even working overnight, and eating instant noodles for all the three meals a day, those are common for the personnel administering nucleic acid testing. When they finished the testing, took off their cumbersome protective clothing, and were about to leave the test lab and go home, they often wouldn't know whether they should call it a "day" or "night".

　　Shanghai is a safer place because of them and others working at the front line to fight against COVID-19. Those "ordinary"people are our heroes!

　　Zhou Yue, an operating room nurse, came to support the testing work just after finishing an operation without taking a break to have a quick supper. Shi Yun, an emergency doctor, received an urgent task notice just after finishing his night shift...

　　There is an emergency nucleic acid testing team at Kongjiang Hospital in Yangpu District, Shanghai, which, upon receiving a notice, would rush to the scene within 2 hours and carry out nucleic acid test sampling building by building, door by door. For various reasons, the sampling sometimes is done early in the morning, and sometimes late at night, and there's no guarantee that everyone will be able to line up for the sampling at a designated location. That's why the team always has to knock many doors to ensure no one is missed.

　　Wearing heavy protective clothing, carrying barcode scanners, medical waste garbage bags, sampling tubes, disinfectants, gloves and other items, they shuttle back and forth between buildings.

　　"We don't care about climbing stairs, but sometimes some people just don't open the door for us."Many buildings of old communities are not equipped with elevators, and the team members often have to climb to the 6th or 7th floor of a building to collect samples. "With the protective clothing we wear, and all the things we carry, this is not easy for us. But we won't stop until all the sampling is done, no matter how long it takes, "the head of the sampling team told the reporter, adding that to ensure no one is missed in the sampling, they have to do it building by building, door by door. It's time-consuming and hard work, but also absolutely necessary to support the country's dynamic-zero Covid policy.

　　If the medical personnel fighting against the pandemic on the front line can be called "fighters", then the sampling and testing personnel are the "deminers".

　　The Laboratory Department of Kongjiang Hospital is one of the key departments for the prevention and control of Covid-19 in the hospital. On the door of the PCR laboratory, a "biohazard" sign is posted. And behind that door, it's where the nucleic acid testing is done. The lab is divided into three areas, namely reagent preparation area, sample processing area, and nucleic acid amplification and product analysis area. PCR testers need not only to analyze the samples of infected or suspected infected persons, but also deal with the highly-hazardous waste generated during the test to ensure bio-safety. The coding of samples in nucleic acid testing seems easy, but the testers are dealing with thousands of samples every day and there must be zero error. They have to be extremely meticulous. Wearing airtight protective clothing and working hard under "negative pressure" is the norm for every nucleic acid tester.

　　They have to wear protective clothing for six or seven hours, or even more than ten hours every day, in order to ensure work efficiency, nucleic acid detection personnel try to drink as little as possible, and reduce the number of toilet breaks. Gene amplification is key to determining the final result, thus even if there is a slight suspicion, it must be repeatedly checked. Every time they come out of the laboratory, their clothes are soaked, their faces are covered with marks pressed by the masks, their arms become stiff due to long-time work, and their hands are trembling when they take off the protective clothing. Thanks to their hard work, the lab delivers its promise of issuing test results reports within 6 hours.
