Recently, the Yangpu preliminary contest of the 5th Shanghai Science Popularization Competition was held at the Community School of Xinjiangwan sub-district. The contest was organized by Yangpu District Science and Technology Commission, which invited five experts as judges, including Wang Bei, associate researcher at Shanghai Museum. A total of 21 contestants from 11 institutions in the region signed up for the competition.
At the competition, each contestant was required to choose a topic and carry out a scientific and vivid explanation of the subject from his perspective based on the exhibits or figures at popular science bases (venues), or on their own expertise in disciplines and professions. Finally, seven players on behalf of Yangpu were granted into the semi-finals, when they will compete with finalists around the city to compete for the finals places.
The Shanghai Science Popularization Competition has been held for five sessions, and the composition of contestants has expanded from the professional docents to all science enthusiasts.
